Meditation is a practice in which an individual trains the mind to induce a mode of consciousness to realize some benefit or for the mind to simply acknowledge its content without becoming identified with that content, or as an end in itself. The term meditation refers to a broad range of practices that includes techniques designed to promote relaxation, build internal energy or life force (qi, ki, prana, etc.) and develop compassion, love, patience, generosity, and forgiveness. Meditation helps in reducing stress, anxiety, depression, and can have overall positive effects on mental health. Different forms of meditation include mindfulness meditation, loving-kindness meditation, transcendental meditation, and many others. Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years and is used in different cultures and religions as a means of spiritual development, personal growth, and stress reduction.
